Assistant Lower School Director
Village Community School seeks to hire an Assistant Lower School Director.
This 12-month, full-time position, beginning on July 1, 2025.

The Assistant Lower School Director (ALSD) reports to the Lower School Director and serves as a member of the Educational Council, Guidance Team, and Department Coordinators Group. The ALSD will actively embrace the VCS Mission and Diversity Statements and will collaborate with the Lower School Director to oversee the academic, social, and emotional life of the Lower School.
The ALSD should understand the developmental needs of young children (K-5) and demonstrate the ability to create a school community that serves those needs. The ALSD should have high energy, enthusiasm, and a sense of humor, and model lifelong learning and a commitment to professional growth. It is important that candidates have outstanding communication skills and be confident problem solvers yet be flexible and willing to see situations from all sides. The ALSD should be comfortable communicating with all school constituents: students, families, faculty, staff and fellow administrators. The ALSD should be a strong student advocate, but able to maintain appropriate boundaries with students and families. The ALSD should be highly organized and detail-oriented, as well as able to see beyond details to the wider landscape. A master’s degree is preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Working closely with the Lower School Director (LSD) to achieve the school’s and the LSD’s vision and goals for the division; helping to assess progress towards these goals throughout the school year.
- Working with the LSD and Guidance Team to address the academic and social-emotional needs of LS students.
- Collaborating with the LSD and the DEIB Coordinator to create and implement programs that support all students.
- Contributing to the Educational Council’s discussions, research, and action items.
- Participating in the interviewing, onboarding, evaluation, and professional development processes for faculty.
- Overseeing the daily class schedule and coordinating special schedules.
- Collaborating with the Assistant to the Lower School to arrange substitute coverages.
- Coordinating and attending grade-level team meetings and specialists’ meetings.
- Advising faculty on curriculum development and instructional delivery.
- Collaborating with the LSD on student management and discipline.
- Assisting the LSD with proofreading and editing student progress reports.
- Attending Admin Calendar meetings monthly.
- Participate in daily duties, such as dismissal and lunch duty.
- Maintaining contact with families on issues relating to their children and participating in parent events.
- Attending a variety of LS and school-wide student events (LS Community Meeting, All School Assemblies)
- Acting as the primary point person for the division in the LSD’s absence.
- Assuming responsibility for other projects as assigned by the LSD.
- Maintain discretion and confidentiality in all matters.
Kindergarten and First Grade Assistant Teachers 2025–2026
VCS seeks to hire full-time Kindergarten and First Grade Assistant Teachers for the 2025-2026 school year.
This is a full-time, 10-month position that begins on August 25, 2025.
Salary Range: $50,000–$55,000

- Assist the Head Teacher in communicating standards, achievements, and areas of concern to students and parents.
- Participate in monthly Assistant Teacher Program meetings and other professional development related to teacher training on topics such as child development, classroom management, and working with parents.
- Transition students to and from Specials classes (art, music, shop, P.E. etc.).
- Supervise Lunch & Recess.
- Attend grade level meetings, staff meetings.
- Collaborate with school administrators, other teachers and staff, parents, and community members in the education of the students.
Learning Specialist
Village Community School seeks to hire a Learning Specialist for Grades K-4.
This is a 12-month, full-time position, beginning on July 1, 2025.
Salary Range: $80,000-$105,000

The Learning Specialist reports to the Assistant Head of School and plays a vital role in supporting student learning by collaborating with faculty, partnering with families, and contributing to the development of effective learning strategies. As a key member of the Guidance Team, the Learning Specialist provides guidance, makes referrals, leads professional development, and facilitates parent education workshops. Qualified candidates will hold a degree in special education or a related field and have a minimum of three years of relevant experience. Experience supporting a broad range of learning differences at the elementary level is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, adept at managing multiple responsibilities, and able to maintain the utmost confidentiality and discretion.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, families, and outside providers to support student learning and development.
- Provide faculty with resources, instructional coaching, training, and support to help them address varied learning needs.
- Develop instructional materials such as checklists, curriculum resources, and behavior intervention plans.
- Review and summarize neuropsychological evaluations; administer in-house assessments as needed.
- Document key information from evaluations and outside services and facilitate connections between teachers and providers.
- Conduct and document classroom observations; offer feedback on student learning, engagement, and classroom dynamics.
- Maintain comprehensive observational notes and assessment records.
- Recommend appropriate outside support, including tutors and specialists, for students who need additional services.
- Consult and collaborate with the Guidance Team to coordinate referrals and accommodations.
- Communicate with external professionals to ensure consistency between in school and outside support strategies.
- Meet with families to discuss observations, accommodations, and progress in their child’s learning.
- Oversee training staff, test preparation, and administration for MAP testing in Grades 2–4.
- Organize and distribute MAP test results to families, teachers, and administrators.
- Design and lead parent education workshops on topics related to learning and development.
- Facilitate and participate in any necessary DOE meetings and observations.
Math Teacher for Grades 5–8

School Psychologist
Village Community School seeks to hire a School Psychologist for Grades K–4.
This is a 12-month, full-time position, beginning on July 1, 2025.

The School Psychologist reports to the Assistant Head of School and collaborates closely with school leaders, instructional faculty, and families to support the cognitive, social and emotional growth of students in grades K-8. As a member of the Guidance Team, this individual will develop strategies, provide guidance, make referrals, lead professional development for staff, and host parent education workshops.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Foster a positive school climate that supports social-emotional health.
- Collaborate on the design and implementation of an integrated SEL curriculum.
- Conduct classroom observations, provide feedback on student social-emotional behavior, and recommend classroom-wide positive behavioral supports.
- Maintain detailed observational notes and assessment records.
- Organize, document, and track classroom-based and individualized student interventions and accommodations.
- Review and interpret educational and psychological evaluations; administer in-house assessments as needed.
- Meet with students on a short-term basis as needed and provide crisis prevention and intervention services.
- Consult and collaborate regularly with the Guidance Team to refer and coordinate service provider accommodations.
- Deliver culturally responsive support to students and families.
- Serve as a resource for parents seeking strategies to support their children’s development.
- Demonstrate the capacity to team-build, lead, and empower others.
QUALIFICATIONS
