Woodshop

In the VCS Woodshop, students experience the joys of discovery and creativity as they acquire and apply the skills they have learned to design and build work that reflects their interests and individuality. The opportunity to create empowers children, giving them a deeper understanding of how things work in the environment they inhabit. Students love woodworking because designing and building is fun! Hands-on experiences develop self-confidence—and foster the joy and satisfaction of life-long learning.

In Woodshop, young students become proficient in basic woodworking skills in a safe and developmentally appropriate manner. They learn how to bring their ideas to life through careful planning and creative thinking. Students have the opportunity to work on projects including pocket cars, birdhouses, sculptures, shelves, and percussion instruments. Throughout the year, children are introduced to and learn the proper use of a variety of tools including hammers, eggbeater and brace drills, and coping and crosscut saws, as well as sanding and shaping devices.
